What a shock absorber does...

A shock absorber is designed to absorb or dampen the compression and rebound of the springs and suspension. They control the unwanted and excess spring motion. Shock absorbers keep your tires in contact with the road at all times.

What are the signs of a shock absorber going?

If you experience similar vibrations on smooth roads, your shocks, struts, or steering stabilizer may be worn. Unusual noises – When shocks and struts are worn out you may hear a clunking or knocking sound. This sound is caused by metal-to-metal contact when the shock or strut bottoms out when hitting a bump.

Is it expensive to replace a shock absorber?

The real question to this is how much it will cost driving with a damaged shock absorber as continuing to drive with a damaged shock absorber will cause damage to other suspension components, items such as stabilisers, bushes etc... which will be taking up the extra load that the shock absorbers would normally carry. The actual cost of a shock absorber may not be as expensive as you would think. However dependant on make/model of vehicle and the garage/ mechanic the average time to fit a shock absorber is between 1.5- 4 hours (check with your garage and get a quote beforehand for labour charge to save  yourself a shock!!)

At BDL Original we carry a large range of Car, van, truck & trailer shock absorbers in various brands call us with your details and we will give you a quote
