What is a draglink assembly?

A steering drag link is part of the steering system which converts the rotary motion of a crank or steering box to a second crank or link. Converting the motion of the steering box into the linear motion required to pull the tie rods, enables the vehicle's wheels to be turned.

How does a draglink work?

A drag link connects the pitman arm on the steering gear with the steering arm on the spindle. Rotation of the steering gear input shaft causes the pitman arm to rotate back and forth. As this motion occurs, the drag link pushes or pulls the steering arm causing the wheel to pivot on its king pin.

Does a draglink affect the steering?

A loose or worn drag link will have play which can negatively affect the vehicle's steering. A bad center link may cause the vehicle to wander or pull to the left or right when traveling down the road.
